But what is it?

If you are here then it is probably what you think a Virtual Assistant Business is and the lifestyle that comes with it. It may not be very clear for you, it may be a hazy, vague dream of what your life could be like or it might be a very well defined plan but either way you are here because some or all of your grand vision of it is missing or incomplete.

I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve told someone I am a Virtual Assistant and, after I explain what that means, she says, “Wow, how can I do that?” I’ve also lost track of the number of VA’s who quit. They had great skills and experience but they just couldn’t get past some of the hurdles in their way. Maybe they couldn’t get enough work or they had “bad” work or clients. For some their family and friends didn’t understand their vision and others were lonely working at home alone.

Does this sound familiar? Have you ever thought about being a Virtual Assistant so you can have your own business, good income and balance work, family and play? Do you have good, marketable skills (or are willing to get them), but you need help with the business and support side of things. Maybe you have been working as a VA but have not seen the success you thought you would enjoy. Or maybe you have heard about this mysterious “thing” called a VA and you want to know if it might be for you?

Well, you are in the right place and we can help you get it.

And who might this we be?

Well, we is me (see more about me here) and all of you - You, in this case being plural, You as in the members of this community. Being a ProVA isn’t just about your accounting system or your marketing materials, although those are definitely things you need to know about (we’ll get there, not to worry!) but it is also about the journey to it - the journey to Being a Professional VA and that is something that all of us here will share.

A work in progress

Part of this blog is made up of courses and articles to help you design and develop your own Professional VA Business. I will give you a blueprint to follow as well as instructor and peer support and guidance. Information will be presented in multi-media formats to keep things fun and interesting as well as informative. You will be able to hit the ground running and build a successful, profitable business.

The VA Industry is evolving so this site will too. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest trends and technologies so you can not only keep your business thriving but help your clients keep their businesses thriving too!

So…

Here you can learn how to set up and manage a Virtual Assistant Business, how to market and manage it, how to keep your skills current and resources to support you all in one dynamic community. You will be in business for yourself, but not by yourself!

Because…

No one succeeds alone.

This brings us to the other part of this site - the community. Have you heard the saying that “the sum of the whole is greater than the individual parts?” When you are learning in a traditional classroom setting and you have a question, you raise your hand and ask the teacher and you get the teacher’s answer. Here, you can post your question in the course forum and get my answer. But if my children have taught me anything, they have taught me that I don’t know everything. The forums will allow questions and ideas to be “discussed” in a more round table fashion so we can all share ideas, questions, concerns, resources and successes!

We also have some general community forums for things that don’t necessarily fit with the course forums. One is the VA Water Cooler where you can post business related topics. For example, maybe you need help with formatting a Power Point presentation or you have a question on what type of monitor you should buy. Another forum is called VA’s Just Wanna Have Fun! Because, well…we do! This is where you can share the A your son got on his history test or a photo of your daughter’s soccer goal. We’ll wind up every week with Fun Friday where I’ll pose a question like, what is your favorite childhood memory or tell us about your most embarrassing moment! (Come on - fess up! J )
