Has “Stress for Success” become your mantra?
This is a question that more and more people are asking themselves. Society puts so much attention on success and what it is and how to get it but more and more, people are asking if the price is too high.
Whatever the definition of success if stress is the price paid, perhaps the definition needs some tweaking. The old school says you have to work hard to get ahead and working hard means things like being the first one in the office in the morning and the last one to leave at night. The old school says things like you have to be competitive and winning is everything. I saw a bumper sticker once that said, “She who dies with the most shoes wins.” Isn’t she who dies with the most stuff just dead?
It’s time for a new school of thought. Well actually, it’s not so new but it is gaining attention and momentum. A lot of people are taking a step back and wondering what all the fuss is about. They are also redefining success into broader terms and more is being discussed about “life balance.” So perhaps the questions we should be asking ourselves are; what are we really stressing over? Is it our vision of what we want for our lives or is it someone else’s? Is it really possible to give more and have more by doing less?
Consider that you could meet and even exceed your client’s expectations with less sweat on your brow and only doing the work you excel at and enjoy. Consider for a moment - going to your son’s track meet and taking in a movie with your daughter could actually make you more productive. Recharge your batteries so that when you are working you are more effective and efficient. Oh yea, and you are happier too. And you know what that means? Yep, happier clients too!
